(this is so not my kitchen, but a girl can dream can't she?)
- Did you know that you don't *need* to preheat your oven for most things? Unless you are cooking bread or pastries or souffles you shouldn't need to preheat.
- Guess what else works? Turning the oven off 10 minutes before the food is done. The residual heat will keep the food cooking. Just don't open the oven to check on the food - use your oven light to look in at the food.
- When you are cooking something be sure to think of what else can be cooked at the same time because most things can be cooked at slightly different temperatures so you can put more than one dish in the oven at a time.
This post was submitted to Life as Mom's Frugal Friday Mr. Linky. If you have never checked this out please do - lots of great tips.
I have found that if I really DO need to preheat for something (such as crunchy stuff), it heats much faster using the broiler. It works great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant addition to the tips! Thanks Lenetta!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips / ideas. Thanks for sharing

Okay. Gotta remember to turn off the oven 10 mins. before the food is cooked. Thanks for the tips. Welcome to SITS!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas... it's totally true that preheating isn't always necessary... Thank Goodness cause sometimes it's all I can do to turn it on!

Welcome SITSA'S!I am not sure how you all found me and visited about the same time, but that's OK it made my day!
ReplyDeleteI do all three of those things :) I also have an oven / grill function on my microwave so that if I'm doing something for just me, I don't have to heat up a huge oven space (because I don't always want to cook an oven-full of stuff).
ReplyDeleteDropping in to welcome you to SITS :)
Welcome to SITS! Love your tips! When finished with my oven, I turn it off & leave the door open to heat up the kitchen. No use wasting that heat!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Had no idea (honestly)!

ReplyDeleteI have also experienced some burning on the bottom of things, but I don't notice much difference in most things when I don't preheat.
Great tip, Christy!
